The Micah Hanks Program

In the autumn of 1973, the United States experienced one of the most remarkable UFO waves in modern history. From bizarre reports of alleged landings and humanoid occupants to the famous Pascagoula encounter and the Coyne helicopter incident, hundreds of sightings emerged across the country during a period when UFOs seemed to be almost everywhere. Similar high-profile encounters continued throughout the 1970s and 1980s—but in the decades since, something appears to have changed.
This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we revisit the extraordinary UFO wave of 1973 and ask a deceptively simple question: where have all the UFOs gone? While UFO reports certainly haven't disappeared, the classic high-strangeness Close Encounter seems conspicuously rarer today. We examine what factors could explain the apparent shift, along with speculations about what it all could potentially mean.

On April 24, 1964, Socorro, New Mexico police officer Lonnie Zamora reported encountering a strange egg-shaped craft resting in the desert, accompanied by two small figures and bearing an unusual red insignia on its side. Moments later, the object reportedly lifted from the ground with a roar and disappeared into the distance. Investigated by the U.S. Air Force's Project Blue Book, the Socorro incident would become one of the most famous—and perplexing—UFO cases of the twentieth century.
In this episode of The Micah Hanks Program, we take a deep dive into the Socorro mystery, examining Zamora's remarkable account, the physical evidence investigators documented at the scene, and the competing theories that have emerged in the decades since. We also look closely at one of the case's most intriguing details: the mysterious insignia Zamora said he observed on the craft, including the controversy surrounding its true appearance and whether this curious symbol might have held the key to solving what has often been described as one of Project Blue Book's best-documented unexplained cases.

Nothing seemed out of the ordinary on the night of November 2, 1971, as 16-year-old Ronald Johnson was tending the sheep behind his family's farm near Delphos, Kansas. That would all change within a matter of minutes, after a sudden rumbling noise caught his attention, prompting the young farmer to step outside—leading him to a face-to-face encounter with the unexplained. 
This week, we examine the famous Delphos, Kansas UFO incident, looking at details that include photos of a glowing ring on the ground where the object had allegedly hovered, and how subsequent analysis of soil samples helped make the Delphos case one of the more unusual purported physical-trace UFO incidents of the era.
