We’re taking one whole month off and will be back on September 28.
Okay, TWG Gang. We did it. We survived another year of this completely random, slightly unhinged thing we call The Wurst Guide to Living in Austria.
And what a year it’s been. Record podcast listeners, thousands of new people joining the gang, live shows, guests, sponsors, arguments, questionable opinions and an unreasonable amount of work. So before we disappear for our very fashionably late summer break, we’re getting a little sentimental.
We look back at our favourite podcast moments of the past year, talk about our packed Kultursommer show (and why we were convinced five people would turn up), and discuss why Jacob is fundamentally incapable of dealing with emotions & especially success.
But don’t worry, it doesn’t stay wholesome for long.
We also get into why Austrians refuse to believe in themselves, why Jacob has officially declared war on Lüften, the very Austrian art of wrapping yourself in a towel at the swimming pool, why old ads were somehow much more unhinged, and some truly beautiful Austrian phrases involving asses and sugar. And we look ahead at what’s next for The Wurst Guide: and where we want to take this weird little podcast in the future.
Goodbye. For now.
Thank you for listening, watching, coming to our shows and somehow continuing to be part of this weird little gang.
We’re proud of you. We’re proud of us.
Kisses,
Jacob & Gabriel

Feedback, Kooperationen oder Werbepartner-Anfragen welcome. - We had such a great time at Kultursommer Wien! Full house, not a single spare seat, and lots of funny conversations with the audience about what makes the perfect summer day in Vienna.
Unfortunately, we had some technical issues with the recording... such a shame.
Hear you next week!
Kisses & bussis
Jacob & Gabriel - Nychos is one of the most internationally recognised street artists to come out of Austria - specifically Styria - with his enormous anatomical murals appearing on walls around the world.
In this episode, Jake and Nychos go well beyond street art.
They talk about living abroad, how leaving Austria changes the way you see Austrian culture, and that strange in-between feeling of still being Austrian while building a life somewhere else.
There’s also an important discovery: apparently, the Austrian accent can get you laid abroad.
From there, things spiral beautifully into Austrian humour, identity, emotional weirdness, cultural habits and why German spoken with an American accent sounds completely ridiculous.
They get into:
+ Growing up in Styria and becoming a globally known street artist
+ Being Austrian while living abroad
+ Seeing Austria differently once you leave
+ The international appeal of the Austrian accent
+ Austrian humour, identity and emotional baggage
+ Why leaving home can make you understand it better
+ German spoken with an American accent
+ Casually psychoanalysing Austrians as a people
It’s a monster of an episode, but one worth sticking with until the end.

Jacob is back from wintery Australia and immediately gets slapped in the face by Vienna’s second heatwave of the summer. He and Gabriel compare notes on what extreme heat does to the city, why Austrians announce 38-41 degrees like an incoming natural disaster, and how everyone tries to cool down without completely losing it. Plus, one listener send us a present The Wurst Guide – immer montags – immer deppat.

27/07/2026 | 1 h 31 minBig thanks to Ottakringer, Vienna’s independent beer brand, for sponsoring this episode and supporting our independent podcast. Cheers! 🍻
Annabel Lubega is a content creator at Vienna Würstelstand. She was born in Austria, grew up in Singapore and Uganda, and moved back to Vienna three years ago. The culture shock hit her immediately.
In this episode, she shares what she loves and hates about Austrian culture. Her hot takes include:
Everyday racism in Austria: from inappropriate comments to people asking to touch her hair.
Why is Wiener Grant treated as something to be proud of?
Why is it so difficult to make friends in Austria?
Why don’t Austrians greet each other?
Why does nobody talk openly about money?
Why do Austrians split the bill down to the last cent?
What are the best Austrian phrases?
And why is Brickerl so popular?
Annabel also shares things she genuinely loves about Austria: Schwimmbad fries, the annual siren test and Arabella Kiesbauer.
