- ...where we talk: complexity, the beauty in science and Practical Magic.
In his own words: Arturo is a computational cancer scientist specialising in agent-based modelling, AI and tumour evolution. I bridge mechanistic biology and computation to understand complex systems and develop models that can improve cancer research and patient care.
That is when he’s not getting therapy through podcast recordings.

The MathBioNexus - ...where everyone got together to talk MathBio in Graz, Austria.
This year the SMB meeting was held together with the European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology. In between hiking some hills and enjoying the local pumpkin seed oil the attendees stopped to speak about their work on women’s health, and social determination of measles, and a precious baseball card collection.

Dr. Kirschner was the first mathematics professor appointed in a medical school. She researches immune responses to infections using multiscale modeling. She served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Theoretical Biology for 20 years and as president of SMB.

Note: an earlier version of this recording mentioned that Denise and her colleagues published the first agent-based model within a host system. This has been updated to reflect that this was actually the first spatial agent-based model.
