  • Kimberly Wannop | 5 | This Set Decorator is in A VERY Good Place
This is The Art Dept, a podcast dedicated to the art behind movie and TV magic. This is an exploration and a showcase of the creatives that never write a line, say a single word nor appear on screen yet their work creates the scene, the feel and the backstory for the characters you love and love to hate. Kimberly Wannop an EMMY Award winning set decorator worked on a number of your favorite shows including, Bones, The Good Place, VEEP, Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn nine-nine. The set decorators, art directors and all of the members of the art department have this unique job of telling a story, about characters, both real and imagined in a way that shows how they live or lived, how they became the characters that the actors want you to believe them to be. Kimberly Wannop is an absolute pro and this is her story. Thank you for listening to this episode of The Art Dept. Every episode will feature the Hollywood elite, the A-Listers who make TV and movie magic every day. • William DeBiasio | 4 | Reimagining The Lives of the Characters
This is The Art Dept, a podcast dedicated to the art behind movie and TV magic. This is an exploration and a showcase of the creatives that never write a line, say a single word nor appear on screen yet their work creates the scene, the feel and the backstory for the characters you love and love to hate. I’m Josh Cooperman and in this episode, you are going to hear from William DeBiasio, set decorator on such TV shows as Famous in Love, Ray Donovan and Pretty Little Liars and an upcoming new NETFLIX original project called What/If. William is what I would call a complete set decorator. He takes everything into account prior to setting up the design. He pre-strategizes what products may get popular, establishes the spaces for where he believes the characters will develop as people over time and imagines and re-imagines their lives, how they live and react to other characters. This is a conversation with set decorator William DeBiasio.

  • Designing for A Script | 3 | Taking Characters Off the Page and Making Them Real
This is The Art Dept, a podcast dedicated to the art behind movie and TV magic. This is an exploration and a showcase of the creatives that never write a line, say a single word nor appear on screen yet their work creates the scene, the feel and the backstory for the characters you love and love to hate. I’m Josh Cooperman and this episode of the podcast features an interview with set decorator, Beth Wooke. Beth’s body of work is vast with some amazing shows, not the least of which is the TV smash hit, This Is Us. Beth defined the characters for us, showed us how the live, where and how they spend their time. We learn by how these characters live how they are like and unlike us. And these are people we have grown to care for, deeply. Beth defined these people in the first season and that really seems to be Beth’s super-power. I wanted to know more about how Beth does this, where she gets her inspiration from and they answer may or may not surprise you. What you will hear, is how this creative uses her personal experiences to shape the environment of the characters and makes them come to life in between the lines. Before we get to Beth, I want you to hear from another set decorator, Don Diers. Don has a truly diverse body of work. He has decorated sets for The Muppets, Jane the Virgin, Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. Don is also a cross-over in the art department with work as a production designer, art director, set dresser and prop master. Thank you for listening to this episode of The Art Dept. • Michele Poulik and Victor Zolfo | 2 | ON-Set
This is The Art Dept, a podcast dedicated to the art behind movie and TV magic. This is an exploration and a showcase of the creatives that never write a line, say a a single word nor appear on screen yet their work creates the scene, the feel and the backstory for the characters you love and love to hate. I’m Josh Cooperman and this episode features a conversation with Oscar and BAFTA Award winner Victor Zolfo. Zolfo has works on some truly memorable projects including The Avengers, The Social Network, Deepwater Horizon, Real Steel, Daredevil, Godzilla, and many others but what is really interesting about this list is the diversity in his work. You have a range in genres, but look at the diversity in time and feel. Victor’s job, his art is taking words from a page and crafting an environment so when you and I go see this movie, we believe that character but also that the character belongs in that space. You are also going to hear from set decorator, Michelle Poulik. Every creative has a different path to passion. This is hers, from working with Ford to starting her own “all girl” production company in a time when it was highly uncommon. Every episode will feature members of Hollywood elite, the A-Listers who make TV and movie magic every day.
