Storybrooke Circus: A Once Upon A Time Podcast

In this episode of Storybrooke Circus, we revisit Once Upon a Time Season 4 Episode 14 where, apparently, the group strategy is just… lie to Emma and hope it works out. As David and Mary Margaret double down on keeping their secret buried and the Queens of Darkness continue to be exactly as subtle as you’d expect, the episode quickly becomes less about mystery and more about who’s willing to actually be honest. And somehow, in a town full of heroes, Emma ends up being the most grounded, self-aware, and emotionally mature person in the room. Which would be great, if it didn’t also mean she’s the only one dealing with the fallout when everything inevitably starts to unravel.

As he recruits Cruella and Ursula while the Chernabog closes in, the episode makes it clear this isn’t desperation, it’s intention. What starts as a clever plan quickly reveals something deeper and a lot more uncomfortable: sometimes the people you align with don’t just help you succeed… they expose who you’ve already decided to become.

On this episode of Storybrooke Circus, we'll be discussing Once Upon a Time Season 4 Episode 12. The town that just survived an ice apocalypse is now pretending that counts as progress, Regina realizes her version of a happy ending might require letting it go - specifically the part where she gets Robin - while Hook discovers that being magically tethered to Gold comes with some pretty aggressive fine print. Gold, meanwhile, is fully committed to choosing power over love and literally everything else, which goes about as well as you’d expect once Belle starts asking questions and Emma starts connecting dots. Elsewhere, back in a slightly more doomed version of the past (because nothing says romance like light emotional manipulation), Belle’s attempt at domestic curiosity spirals into a hostage situation that introduces a very coordinated trio of villains, forcing Rumplestiltskin to choose between power and the one thing he absolutely insists he doesn’t care about, which of course tells you everything you need to know.
