Katie Van Slyke - Katching Up With Katie

Getting to finally sit down and really introduce y’all to my new trainer felt so overdue… and I’m so excited for you to meet Stephanie! 🐴💕
In this episode of Katching Up With Katie, I’m sitting down with Stephanie to talk all about her background with horses, how she got started training, and what led her to Running Springs. We get into everything from her early riding days to working with young horses, plus what it’s been like stepping into an in-house trainer role here on the farm.
Of course, we also dive into the fun stuff, my two-year-olds (Wall-E, Molly, and Daphne), their personalities, how they’re progressing, and which ones we’re most excited about right now.
Having Stephanie here has completely changed the way I’m able to manage my horses. From starting two-year-olds at home, to making more tailored decisions as they grow, to honestly just helping me get back in the saddle more consistently.
It really feels like the start of a whole new chapter for the farm, the horses, and the kind of content we get to create together.

The last couple of weeks on the farm have been an emotional roller coaster, but that’s real life during foaling season. 🐴💕
In this episode of Katching Up With Katie, I’m catching y’all up on everything that’s been happening lately — the good, the hard, and the really unexpected moments that come with farm life.
We talk about our newest little addition to the crew (meet Frankie 🐶), barn updates, and several new mares that have joined the program. But we also open up about some of the tougher moments from the past week, including a difficult foaling loss, a goat miscarriage, and Maggie’s colic surgery while she’s still pregnant. Farm life can bring so much joy, but it also comes with real challenges, and I wanted to share that side of it with y’all too.
Through all of it, we’re still moving forward with the horses, the foals we’re expecting, and the exciting training work happening at the barn with Stephanie. There’s always something happening around here, and I’m grateful y’all are along for the ride with us.

Today’s Katching Up With Katie is basically a foaling season survival update 😂🐴
We are beyond tired. We have had 3 foals in one week (plus one the week before), and we have been on full watch so long I genuinely do not know what day it is anymore. This is Lindsay’s first ever foaling season, so we sit down and talk about what it is really like behind the scenes when you go from a smooth, fast foaling to a situation where things get scary really fast. We also get into the part nobody thinks about until it happens: the content and storage chaos.
Between regular farm videos, subscriber footage, and multiple long births, we ran out of hard drive space, ran out of card space, and learned that apparently hard drives are in short supply when you need them the most. Add in a sick cow visit and normal chores that do not pause for foaling season, and it has been a WEEK.

Foal watch is officially in full swing over here. 😅🐴 We’ve got overdue mares, late nights staring at the cameras, and the internet collectively yelling “GIVE US THE BABY” while I’m over here like… can we maybe wait until it’s at least 40 degrees? 😂
In this episode of Katching Up With Katie, I’m catching you up on where we’re at with the mares in the foaling window, what foal alert actually sounds like (spoiler: it’s way less dramatic than you’d think), and everything else happening on the farm at the exact same time. Foaling season, calving season, breeding season coming up, icy weather, plus some very real detours into snakes, donkeys, and some truly unhinged donkey lore. 🐮🫏🐍
