Where the floor is red and the room is round
That’s where darkness has been found
Where the sun is hot and the days are long
This is not where she belongs
This is not where she was born but where she had to build a home
It’s where she has to dig the ground and where she has to gather wood
It’s where she overcame the war and where she tries to find a now
Will her children dig and sow?
And she carries her house on her head
And she shoulders her past on her back
While she’s bearing her future in her womb
Will her garden be enough?
And in the morning she is lighting the fire
Nobody sees or will ever admire
Her strength or ask her if she’s ever had dreams
No together they sing and pray
Yelele Mama yelele
She’s providing always in here
While he’s out and drinking beer
She might not no what is six times seven
But what she knows is how to raise these seven
And she knows how to make them strong and to reach out to all of those
How to save for future goals and she knows how to build a house
How to overcome the storm and how to keep her family warm
How to send them all to school
And she carries her house on her head
And she shoulders her past on her back
While she’s bearing her future in her womb
Will her garden be enough?
And in the morning she is lighting the fire
Nobody sees or will ever admire
Her strength or ask her if she’s ever had dreams
Now together they sing and pray
Yelele Mama yelele
She’s standing up
She is speaking up
Oh she is wise
When she knows her rights
Where the room is round,
Where the sun is warm
Where the rain will come
This is where she belongs
